    Lonnie Height

My Name is Lonnie Height. I grew up in a small town in New Mexico. I was introduced to Leather craft in about 1969. We had a new Art teacher who knew enough about leather to get us started. I worked on my leather all through the years. I mostly worked on projects for my family and friends. I always looked to things to do that was creative. I was a sign builder for 16 years. After leaving the sign business I found myself without my creative edge

. My wife enrolled me into a college class for Leather craft. This is where I met my best friend Larry McDonald. Larry taught for three Semesters. During this time he showed me a article in the Saddlers Journal about Ellis Barnes. Ellis said he would like to teach someone to make leather tools. I thought this would be a great opportunity for someone. Larry and my Wife kept telling me to call Ellis, and finally I did. Later we drove to Elfrida Az. where we met Ellis. Ellis told me to come back next week and go to work. Well its now 4 years later and Ellis has passed on and I am the tool maker for Gomph-hackbarth. I feel very proud and lucky to have taken the path that I have. Its nice to have my own shop. Its also nice to have a job that I really like, making Leather tools. Lonnie Height
